WHAT: Crews working for All Aboard Florida, the express intercity passenger rail service owned by Florida East Coast Industries, will temporarily close the intersection of NW 6th Street and the Florida East Coast Railway in order to work on sections of the railroad tracks as the next step in preparations for the construction of the 60,000-square foot Fort Lauderdale station.

The intersection will be closed at 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, and remain closed until approximately 5 a.m. on Friday, June 26. Crews from the locally-owned company Gonzalez & Sons will be installing a new railroad track panel and about 120 feet of new track parallel to the existing track. This work is necessary to keep freight rail operations going as All Aboard Florida constructs the new station.In July, the intersections of the Florida East Coast Railway tracks and North Andrews Avenue and West Broward Boulevard will each be closed to perform similar track work in preparation for the new station. When all of the intersection work is completed, a new bypass track will allow freight train traffic to continue through the area as the station is built where the existing line now sits.
